Have you ever wanted to be a person that people look up to? There are a few simple steps that will point you in that direction.
Steps
1
Have self-respect. No one will respect, let alone "look up" to you, if you don't have self-respect. People who lack self-respect tend to be obvious and spineless, which defeats the whole purpose of being a role model. Respect yourself.
2
Respect others. This is obvious as well, but if you have respect for other people (their own right of being), then you'll most likely have respect reciprocated.
3
Be genuine. People who are most authentic are genuine and full of character. These are the kinds of people that many look up to.
4
Do something risky and courageous. You don't have to be a hero but you should do something that challenges your growth and demonstrates it, so that witnesses know the plunge you took.
Try out for the community play or join a marathon. Help an elderly senior cross the street or donate to a good cause. Any activity that you do that "pushes" yourself is remarkable.
5
Help out and give back to your community. The least respectable people are those who are selfish, so do activities that aren't self-serving. Stay humble and volunteer for charity organizations.
6
Have compassion. One of the most important things in life is to have compassion for others, because empathy--the ability to be with someone and understand him or her--is an invaluable trait, and will make you a fuller human being.
7
Be discerning. Don't make foolish choices after another. Have some time to reflect. Logic and reason are important compasses to navigate your life. This type of extraordinary self-possession is very admirable and leaves others who are less confident in awe.
8
Try to live your daily life basing your decisions and actions on the philosophy of doing "the next right thing". In doing so you are able to minimize the levels of long term anxiety that develop from our futuristic fears by focusing on handling the smaller details properly as they come and by having the faith and confidence that everything else will fall into place as it is meant to. Not only is this deliberate lifestyle change beneficial and directs your course of actions toward achieving your goals, but it also inspires others around you to also begin applying this concept into their lives as well once they see the positive results you begin experiencing. Before you know it you have taken on a leadership role that you may not have initially intended to fill yet ultimately gained by leading by example.
