To help rid ourselves of course winter skin, we recently had a delightful body scrub at Haven Spa in the Soho neighborhood of Manhattan. One of their spring favorites is their Rose Body Scrub which, honestly, smells like fresh roses, not that nose-tickling artificial scent. How do they get it to smell so good? It’s all abou using crushed rose petals and essential oil. After the treatment, we felt (and smelled) as perfect as an English rose! Since we’re not all located in the Big Apple, we asked for co-founder of Haven Spa and Eve Salon, Gabrielle Ophals, to share a recipe for a similar scrub you can DIY at home.

What You’ll Need:

Small bowl
1/2 c. salt or sugar
Oil (almond, jojoba or avocado)
Essential oil of rose, lavender or petit fleur
Crushed dried flowers (optional)
Instructions:

Mix together 1/2 cup of salt or sugar with just enough oil to moisten the salt/sugar.  Add a few drops of your favorite floral essential oil (Ophals recommends lavender, rose, rose geranium, linden, petit fleur).  As an option, you can mix in a few teaspoons of crushed dried flowers–a great way to deal with old, dried-up roses!

Mix together and give yourself a good scrub while standing in the shower. Spend extra time on rough areas like elbows and heels, like a good 10-15 minutes. (This winter has been rough so keep scrubbing!) Rinse off and gently blot your skin dry with a soft towel. Follow with your favorite moisturizer, preferably unscented or with a scent that’s complimentary to the scrub. Voila! Spring-ready skin.
